Background
On the final 3 weeks of the UX/UI Bootcamp, I had the chance to develop a personal project:
During the pandemic, I got interested in skincare routines. I realised it was an industry finding new ways & targets thanks to social media and filters. One of my friends is a professional cosmetologist that is willing to give a real approach to beauty treatments and needs to refresh her brand to stand out to open her own beauty center in Barcelona.
We decided to work together to create a website that will improve her business.
Long Term Goal
My aim is to help Tanta Piel to be a business that is known, trusted and profitable with a website that feels inclusive, easy to use and error-free.

Client requirements

Tanta Piel is a real brand, so I wanted to have the closest approach to a real-life project. I started studying their background and current branding, beggining to understand their needs & requirements.
These are the main points on the briefing:

Discovery

I started the process researching on the current state of beauty industry in Spain, getting to know the trends and target users. These are some of the main key points I got from desk research:

Expert Interview

I was able to get in touch with an expert in Medical Cosmetic treatments, with experience working in Barcelona. During our semi-structured interview I wanted to learn about real-life users, the impact of latest trends and how it might be affecting their business. These are some of the highlights:

Benchmarking

I wanted to explore more the way other beauty centers are dealing with the current situation in their industry, to compare and find out what could help Tanta Piel follow its values and help them stand out.

Survey

Once I knew a bit deeper how similar centers are dealing with their businesses & websites, I wanted to know their target public. I did a survey with 25 subjects to learn about their profile, routines and expectatuions. These are some of the main key points:

Define

Based on research findings, I created a persona who repersents the target user of Tanta Piel and their needs and habits. This helped me to empathize with the end user on the remaining steps of the design process.

Ideate

What are we designing?

Based on the research outcome, the solution developed will be: an easy to use website for Tanta Piel to offer their services and engage new customers.

Site Map

Based on the research and persona discovery, I brainstormed, compiled and organized the necessary website content and functionality. I decided to include the most vital information in the website to make it clean and easy to navigate.

Task Flow

I created the user task flow for the booking a treatment process, that is one of the most important site’s functionality.

Initial Sketches & Wireframes

Style Guide

Before developing the first version of UI, I created most of the elements in the UI kit, arranging a style guide.

Testing

To get even some insight and feedback on the branding and usability, I tested the prototype on 5 potential users to get enough feedback to implement it into the first round of iterations. Here are some testing patterns:

Conclusion

The goal was to create an easy to use website that would show the renewed branding of Tanta Piel, with features & content that would make it stand out from the crowd, leading to more sales.Even the booking process and general web structure appears to be clear and attractive, the ‘Tutorial’ feature seems to be confusing and would need to be revised.
